Study suggests Almshouse residents may live longer
10th June, 2026Meet the team behind Queensgate
Beverley Housing Charity (BHC) and Beverley Town Council (BTC) understand why allotment holders and residents may have concerns about a development on and around the Queensgate and Kitchen Lane Allotments. Beverley Town Council owns the Kitchen Lane plots, but leases the adjacent Queensgate site from Beverley Housing Charity.
We wish to stress jointly that this exploration is at an extremely early stage, no decisions have been made, and only limited and necessary meetings have taken place between Beverley Housing Charity and Beverley Town Council as a matter of necessity as landlord and tenant.
As individual organisations benefiting the Beverley Community, it is our collective information to be as open and transparent as possible, in the coming weeks and months.
An initial timeline is listed below.
- Architect commissioned by BHC - Q4 2025
- Information shared between landlord (BHC) and tenant (BTC) - Q1 2026
- Pre-planning submitted - Q1 2026
- Pre-planning feedback received from East Riding of Yorkshire Council - Q2 2026
- BHC updated BTC on interest to proceed to next stage May 2026
- BHC Board meeting W/c 1st June 2026 - Discussion on Pre-planning and next steps
- BHC to attend BTC Full Council meeting W/c
- BHC to invite all allotment holders to information session and website launched July 2026 *Date and venue to be confirmed shortly
- Consultation and further exploration will then commence with interested partners before a decision will be made by the BHC board if the project is viable to proceed to full planning application.
**Regular access to the potential development land is undertaken by BHC and limited users of the site.
***Following the meeting with BTC in June, limited access will be requested as landlord as and when required for surveys to inform our decision and information to stakeholders.
GDPR. No allotment holder information is held by Beverley Housing Charity currently, we will therefore communicate via Beverley Town Council initially asking Allotment holders who wish to receive information from us to register with ourselves during this process.
